SEO is everywhere and super useful for your Shopify Store! I have many tips for you but today let’s share only 6 technical SEO Shopify advices:
1. Get you own domain name ;
2. Submit your sitemap to Google Search Console ;
3. Ensure your Shopify store is loading quickly ;
4. Fulfill your store SEO information ;
5. Add rich snippets to your products or pages ;
6. Use Shopify Blog to drive traffic.
Get you Own Domain Name
Showing a domain like « mystore.shopify.com » is not the best option for Shopify SEO. Search Engines like when a brand had its own domain.
It also increase your visitors trust. What you want to provide them is an entire experience. If they like your brand ,your products, and they do not know you are secretly doing dropshipping, they are more likely to convert.
You can easily buy a domain name to Shopify partners. First, check if it is available. You can show among several extensions such as .com, .org, .fr, .it … I recommend .com if your audience is international. A domain name cost in average 10$ per year. Cheap, right?
Submit your Sitemap to Google Search Console
The Sitemap is the skeleton of your website. You can find your Shopify Sitemap at : yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml
It is very important to tell Google about the structure of your Shopify store. If you help it understand the logical behind your content, it will help you rank better. Of course, you should have a very well organized content: work on your collections and product pages!
Google can analyze your store by itself but to optimize your Shopify SEO faster you should register to Google Search Console and submit your sitemap.xml file.
Ensure your Shopify store is loading quickly
To avoid reducing the speed of your Shopify Store:
- Remove any apps you don’t need ;
- Avoid using a large number of fonts, bolds, etc.. ;
- Use Image compression tools.
You can check the speed of your store using SEO tools such as PageSpeed Insight.
Fulfill your store SEO information
This is the basics, but don’t forget about them. Every page you create, collection, product or image should have information.
Take care of the alternative texts or your image, fulfill every Meta data and include your keywords.
To fulfill your Shopify SEO information;
- Go to Online Store>Preferences ;
- Scroll down to the bottom of a product page ;
- Choose “search engine listing preview” ;
- Click on “edit Website SEO.
Add rich snippets to your products or pages
If you should add some apps, think about those improving the user experience and increasing trust.
Rich snippets are definitely powerful tools to add details to your Shopify SEO.
My advice is to choose those that demonstrate a social proof such as product stars ratings. Schema Plus is a nice Shopify app to add rich snippets or manually add data markup code to your template.
Showing unique services (for example : open 24/24 ; free delivery) or special offers, is also a good strategy.
Use Shopify Blog to drive traffic
Stay active and post often on your Shopify Blog.
You don’t know what to write? Do not write just to publish. Take this opportunity to attract future customers, not only readers. To convert your visitors, you should pick topics related to your product offerings and do some keyword research.
Even if your topic is very general, find a way to talk about your products.
